I’m collecting here a number of pieces on various subjects, though my principle interest is in finding a way of thinking and writing about the imagery on Greek vases. I have a degree in Classics and spent much of my working life developing furnishing fabrics and wallpapers. The story of how I have come to return to my first love, the art of Ancient Greece and how the disparate parts of my experience are linked, is told in ‘Whirlaway’, in the Creative Non-Fiction category. Ulysses refers of course to the Odyssey and dove to the symbol of poetry as seen here in the painting found at Pylos and which dates from about 1200 BCE.
It’s also the name of a most extraordinary choreographer whose tribute to Alvin Ailey I saw in the eighties and have never forgotten.(https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ulysses_Dove)
